Set Back.....

As it neared the end of the week last week, and everyone was starting to feel better, I breathed a sigh of relief that I dodged that bullet. Well.....just a few hours later I started to feel weird and dizzy. I have been sick for the last 5 days. I am hoping to be on the tail end of it now, but I have missed 5 full days of training so far. Rather than get frustrated, I am thinking that everything happens for a reason. Maybe my body needed the rest. Maybe this gave me the chance to reflect on my life and be thankful that my family and I are usually very healthy. I can practice my visualizing skills and imagine myself strong and healthy, doing my workouts with intensity. I leave for California a week from tomorrow to do my first race of the season. I am going to be ready!

Spring "Break".......

This week has been one the most challenging in a long time! Asha and Aliya had strep throat with scary high fever, Shanti had bronchitis, and Jude was so sick he did not go to work for a day (if you knew him, that's shocking). My training has taken a back seat this week, but I managed to bike, swim, and run a few times each. There are so many times I just didn't want to work out, or leave the kids at all. But with help from my husband (when he was well)and mother-in-law, I went to the gym anyway. It's those times I feel the best when I am done, and I am then able to handle the job of mother so much better when I return.

Day Off at the Farm

This is the time of year I am starting to ramp up my training volume for the upcoming triathlon season. Workouts are sometimes long, but I am enjoying the warm Austin weather. Today, however, was a day off for me. These days are so important for my body and mind! They help keep me motivated and fresh. Today I went to Crowe's Nest Farm for my daughter Asha's first grade field trip. We saw a cow being milked, went on a hayride to see ostriches and their eggs, and looked at many other interesting and smelly animals. I brought Aliya (my four year old) along for the fun! The best part was being with my girls - I can't always go on these trips due to a heavy training schedule, but I really cherish the times when I get to go. I went to the farm with my daughter Shanti (12) and my son David (10) when they were in first grade. I was so excited to carry on the tradition at this wonderful place in Manor, Texas. Aliya wil register for Kindergarten in a few weeks. One more to go!
