2006 Texas State Triathlon 2nd overall

Texas State Triathlon- 2nd overall

Texas State Tri - A chilly race morning was in the forecast, so I did not sleep well the night before.

I was so nervous about being chilled to the bone (I get cold easily). My lack of experience had me

plan as if I would be cold, so I put out a headband and sweatshirt to wear during the race after the

swim. I felt solid on the swim - my rubber cap made a huge difference in keeping me from getting

too cold in the water. In the first transition I put on all the warm gear - I turned out to be too much!

I was pretty hot by the end of the bike. I did not take the time to take it off in T2, so I was still a

bit warm on the run - I ran strong and had a good finish, but I think I would have done better with

less. Overall a good day - my placing was 2nd overall!

2006 Capital texas Triathlon-3rd overall

Capital texas Triathlon-3rd overall

CapTex Tri - It was humid and hot today! I was sweating as soon as I put on the wesuit. I

was accepted in the elite wave and was glad to get in the water early! I started in between

two strong men at the beginning of the swim. I had to back off as I was getting hit from

both sides. It evened out a bit and the rest of the swim was good, but not my best. I had

a breakthrough day on the bike, and just pounded it out the whole time! The start of the run

was great and strong - I was so surprised to see Desiree and Amy (I wasn't too far behind

them)! About half way through the run I started to feel bad, so I slowed down a lot for a while.

The last mile I picked it up again and finished strong. I think I just ran out of gas during the

run. AWESOME race though - 3rd overall behind 2 pros! Exciting day.

2006 Capital of Texas Triathlon Elite Finishers

2006 Danskin Triathlon-1st overall

Danskin - This was to be my day today! I felt calm and confident at the beginning of the race. The previous race (Cactus Challenge) at this location helped me be sure I would not take a wrong turn again during the run course. I just went out strong! I was not first out of the water, but leading by the beginning of the bike. I just tried to stay focused on every moment, and not worry about losing my obvious lead. T2 was quick and I felt good on the run - before the big hill at about mile 2 I heard people cheering behind me, so I really blew it out the last mile! I was so excited to break the tape at the finish - my most exciting win so far! I needed help to stand after the finish - a sign that I gave it my ALL.

2006 Danskin Triathlon Austin Texas Top Finishers

2006 Iron Star Half Iron 1st overall (bike ride was 59 miles, First Half Iron for me)

2006 Iron Star Half Iron 1st overall (bike ride was 59 miles, First Half Iron for me)

Yesterday I did my first 1/2 Ironman Distance triathlon - it's a 1.2 mile swim, 59 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. I was nervous about the length of the race, and getting the right nutrition. I asked my coach Siri and several other experienced triathletes what I should eat. I had a plan and stuck to it - I am glad I did! The morning of the race I was expecting the weather to be chilly - it wasn't. By the time we started the race I knew that my jersey, gloves, and arm warmers I had laid out were NOT going to be used. Earlier this year I burned up in a race wearing too much - I didn't want to make the same mistake twice. The swim was a running start - that was exciting and fun! It started in the small inlet in Lake Conroe and curved around to the main part of the lake. The water was great, and my swim felt strong and steady. I had a quick transition since I didn't have to put my warm gear on. The bike leg of the race was the MOST BEAUTIFUL I have seen. We went through the backroads of Montgomery, Texas, and the hills were gentle - one big loop that played to my strengths. I was able to get a lot of momentum on the straight, mostly flat road. I did not get passed by any women, only men that mostly gave me quick words of encouragement! Some men played cat and mouse with me. They would work up speed and pass, but then could not hold it and slowed down. I wore most of them down this way, and eventually I did not see them again. The whole time I was thinking how FUN this race was! After almost 3 hours on the bike I was ready for the long run. I was so relaxed, yet I felt light and quick on my feet. My first mile was under 6:40 pace. I just went with it and tried to relax and keep eating my energy gel before every other water stop. The sun was relentless and there was no shade on the course - I saw a lot of people slow down a lot. There was one woman (the 2nd place finisher) who I kept seeing as we looped around the course, but it didn't seem like she was gaining anything. I kept reminding myself to run my own race and not worry about anyone else (but it was hard not to notice). This was a MAGICAL day - all the components of the race came together for this most exciting win! I did not expect this, but I am so grateful and excited that I get to share this with my family and friends!

2006 Iron Star Half Iron2006 Iron Star Half Iron Top Finishers
