Balance - Jeannie Samson's Triathlon Blog
Keeping Focused on What Is Important.... Every morning news program I have been watching lately has been about the right holiday gifts, the right holiday food, and the right holiday outfits. This only reminds me that this season is not about all those things. Yes, I have bought a few things for my kids, relatives, and friends. I am not , however, stressed about getting the perfect gifts for them. I think people simply want to know that you love and value them during the holidays - it really matters very little what token you have chosen to show that love. What matters more is that you put actions behind that love. Calling your brother or friend you have only spoken to by e-mail lately will mean so much to them. A meaningful handwritten note will be cherished far longer than the $100 mixer you purchased for them. Keeping it simple is my motto for the holidays - that may be why I really still fully enjoy this season so much year after year! My way is not neccesarily the right way, but it certainly keeps me grounded in what's real and it is what works for me in my relationships. Enjoy! |
Making Changes... This past week I have been taking on my eating habits. I have been very successful the past 4 days or so, but better since my last blog. I realized how much I snack during the kids' meal preparation and just anytime I need stress relief. I am also examining my running form. The other day I looked at a picture of myself running, and I was a bit hunched in the waist. It's always hard for me to pick up my knees and feet, maybe that's because my rib cage and spine are a bit compressed. I have also been working on increased running efficiency. Today's long run was great! I really tried to "stand tall" as I ran. I put about the same amount of effort into the run, but it was a few minutes faster than my usual 10 mile training run time. With my renewed eating awareness and form improvements I can just see that running breakthrough just around the corner! Have a wonderful and relaxing holiday season! |
